Remembering the Rent Strikes: guest post

The Glasgow Rent strikes originating in Govan at Cressy Hall at Linthouse were organised, led and enacted by women. Three years before the suffrage cause was partly realised working-class women in Glasgow had brought about legislation that would benefit the whole of Britain, however, Mary Barbour and the other women of the Glasgow Women’s Housing Association did not rest there and continued to campaign..

First Class Entertainment in Elder Park

Elder Park Housing Association’s recent Family Fun Day celebrated their 40th year of providing housing to the community. With a 1970’s Fun Fair theme it seemed like a great opportunity for Govan’s Hidden Histories to celebrate and highlight entertainment which has taken place in Govan over the years. So we took the opportunity to launch the Entertaining Govan Audio Walking Tour and accompanying ‘Greetings fae Govan’ Postcard Set in sunny (and then very rainy…) Elder Park.
